The University Centre at the University of Guelph

GUELPH – For a while now, the University Centre (UC) at the University of Guelph (U of G) has had choose-your-own-drink pop machines in the cafeteria. A recent upgrade to those machines will allow for tips.

“Those machines work hard to combine drink flavours” said a Hospitality Services staff member, “just think about how much time we save not having to combine vanilla Coke with cherry Canada Dry and raspberry Brisk”

The upgrade won’t affect the machines very much however, if you don’t want to tip the machine, you will be limited to the classic flavours.

“The other half of the upgrade is a whole selection of exclusive new flavours. We’ll have electric blueberry, shocking lemon, jazzy watermelon, and wicked cranberry – to name a few” said a staff-member from the pop-machine installation company.

Hospitality Services has introduced the tip-slot hoping to be ahead of a foreseeable trend. “with so much automation on the horizon, we figure it’s only a matter of time until we’re required to tip things like automatic cars or automatic chefs” the Hospitality staff member concluded “plus, we’ll get to keep all the tips, cause y’know, it’s a machine.”
